Our number one priority is that of reducing exposure of workers to carcinogenic Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) that are common in large format printing shops. To help us achieve our goal, we have developed a specialized cabinet named the Graphic INKubator. This cabinet is used for off-gassing the printed products we produce, creating a significant improvement in air quality in our print shop.
What does that mean for your graphics?
A great deal; better prints and longer graphic life! It is well established that the VOC’s are detrimental to the adhesive of 3M180cv3. Most shops do very little in the way of this needed VOC management issue and laminate prematurely, far sooner than the required 24 hours recommended by 3M for adequate off gassing. These shops apply the over-laminate, trapping these VOC’s in the graphics. This procedure sacrifices the adhesive of the graphic.
It has been well established that this is the number one cause of adhesion failure on 3M180cv3 graphic materials. We have not had an adhesive failure in the 5 year plus time frame since we have developed and maintained the procedure. Our procedure is to have our graphics in the INKubator for 72 hours (exceeding the 24 hour 3M recommendation). We also document every print confirming this process has been completed. Thus validating the 3M MCS warranty.
